Biogenesis of circRNAs. Pre-mRNA transcripts can undergo (a) intron-pairing driven circularization, b RBP-mediated circularization, c lariat-driven circularization, d direct circularization of lariat introns, and/or e tRNA splicing-driven circularization to produce circRNAs. EIciRNAs, ecircRNAs, and ciRNAs are the major circRNAs generated by the mentioned circularization methods.
