Autophagy positively or negatively regulates immune response against cancer. Autophagy induction acts as inhibition or promotion of cancer immune escape. This controversial phenomenon may be derived from the experimental context. Some experimental models are in vitro analysis, whereas the regulatory role of autophagy on cancer immune response is complicate in the tumor microenvironment in response to hypoxia, cytokines, or chemotherapy. Autophagy maybe exhibit synergistic effect with immune cells on regulation of cancer immune surveillance
