JL5 enhances cell death induced by the Smac/DIABLO mimetic, AEG. a-c Cells were treated with JL5 and AEG alone and in combination for 48 h and cell counts performed. Studies represent the mean of 4 independent experiments. The Smac mimetic AEG40730 (AEG) by itself had no effect on cell death of the H1299 or A549 cells. JL5 overcame resistance to AEG in the H1299 cells but not the A549 cells. d Western blot analysis of H1299 cells treated for 48 h showed that the combination of JL5 and AEG caused a greater decrease in the expression of cIAP1 and XIAP. e In the A549 cells, AEG decreased cIAP1 expression but had no effect on the expression of XIAP.
