  1. Mutant and wild type cells were starved in Soerensen phosphate buffer, pH 6.0. At the indicated time points in hours after begin of starvation the activity of extracellular phosphodiesterase (in units/ml) was determined. The results from three experiments were evaluated. N, number of experiments. The difference in secretion obtained for sec7- at 2 and 3 hours was statistically significant.
